Stardew Valley Finally Coming To PlayStation Vita This Month

This is not to say that there are no new games for the PS Vita. That comes out to March 31, 2019.

According to a message sent to developers that was obtained by Kotaku, Sony's American and European branches "plan to end all Vita GameCard production by close of fiscal year 2018". Publishers have just a little over a month to submit requests for product codes with final purchase orders needing to be placed by February of next year.

Kotaku reached out to Sony after getting their hands on the email, and Sony confirmed that they would be ceasing development of physical game cartridges for the portable system that's already hanging onto life by a thread. However, with so few new games releasing on the console, it's unlikely to create many issues. Since then, the PS Vita has been home to a collection of JRPGs, Japanese niche titles, and other indie games. On top of that, Sony's decision to release a personalized memory card with a hefty price tag made the system much more expensive than it originally was.

While digital software for the handheld will still be available, you won't be able to head into brick-and-mortar retailers and buy a physical copy of a PS Vita game in the near future.

Sony themselves demonstrated that when they announced they drop the PlayStation Vita from the PlayStation Plus programme. Stardew Valley is set to launch on the Vita on May 22, though after that Persona 5: Dancing Night and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night are the only relatively major releases for the handheld.
