Ford resuming production of lucrative F-Series trucks on Friday

Ford has announced plans to resume F-150 production in MI on Friday and Kentucky on Monday, minimizing downtime after a fire severely damaged a supplier's magnesium parts factory. Ford also plans to get Super Duty assembly back up and running on Monday in Louisville, Kentucky.

Production was halted due to a shortage of parts caused by a May 2 fire at Meridian Magnesium Products in Eaton Rapids. "The ramp-up time to full production is improving every day".

"Faced with unexpected adversity, the Ford team, including our global supply partners, showed unbelievable resiliency, turning a devastating event into a shining example of teamwork", said Ford's executive VP of product development and purchasing.

The automaker also flew one die weighing 87,000 pounds (39.5 tonnes) to a Meridian plant in Nottingham, England, after commissioning a giant Russian-built Antonov cargo plane - one of only 21 in the world.

Ford stopped making the big pickup trucks at KTP on May 5 following a fire at a supplier plant in MI.

Ford said it went to work immediately, while the plant was still smoldering, to remove vital tools and equipment, and received a British import license just 2 hours before the plane transporting the die landed. In between, the Ford team received a United Kingdom import license for the die - a mere two hours before the plane touched down.

All-new Ford 2015 F-150 pickup trucks move down the final inspection line at the Ford Rouge Center in Dearborn, Michigan, November 11, 2014.
