'Agents of SHIELD' Renewed for Abbreviated Sixth Season at ABC

Wherever they put it, the show's ardent fans will find it, and midseason will likely be a bit less competitive than the stacked fall slate. Those questions will no doubt continue to simmer over the next few days, but to ensure excitement remains at a fever-pitch, ABC has pumped out a really rather epic new promo for season 5's swan song, "The End".

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs on Friday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.

Of course, the renewal is a bit of a mixed blessing, since it only included a 13-episode order, far shorter than the standard 22 that the show enjoyed throughout its first five seasons.

The show is the only Marvel property to survive more than two seasons on basic cable.

ABC officially announced today that "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will return for Season 6, continuing the adventures of your favorite agents.

The series revolves around the character of Phil Coulson, with Clark Gregg reprising his role from the film series, and his team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, who must deal with various unusual cases and enemies, including Hydra and the Inhumans. Regardless, fans can breathe a sigh of relief that the series will indeed return, if in a more abbreviated form. If next season is indeed the final go-around, the show wouldn't even be able to address the conclusion of the Infinity War storyline until Avengers 4 hits theaters next May.

Even non-fans are now curious to see how the Season 5 finale (airing this Friday) will address the big twist in Avengers: Infinity War, which could set up a very different board for Season 6.
