Trump Invites Buhari To White House On April 30

Nigerian President Buhari will meet with US leader Donald Trump at the end of the month, the White House has said.

The presidential aide said Buhari and May discussed Nigeria-British relations during the meeting held at 10 Downing Street, London.

Buhari also briefed the Prime Minister on the strides in agriculture, which he said had put Nigeria firmly on the road to food self-sufficiency.

"You could nearly grow food on our roads, as they were abandoned".

May was said to have promised that Britain would continue to work with Nigeria in the areas of training and equipping the military.

The President recalled that the All Progressives Congress-led government had campaigned on three major issues, to secure the country, revive the economy and fight corruption.

"I wonder how all those things could have happened to our country", the President said.

The Presidency had, in a statement issued penultimate Sunday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity Malam Garba Shehu, described Buhari's visit to the United Kingdom as official.

The party said this following controversy over President Muhammadu Buhari's claim that killings in Nigeria had been made worse by militias trained by former Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi.

Climate change and environmental issues also came up for discussion, and President Buhari brought up the necessity of inter-basin water transfer from Congo Basin to Lake Chad.

He also made a case for the recharging of Lake Chad which he said was now about 10 per cent of its original size.

"I do not see any quality of leadership in him that qualifies him to continue to govern this country".

The meeting comes weeks after Rex Tillerson, then USA secretary of state, visited Nigeria and other African countries in March only to be fired after his return to Washington.

President Buhari further assured them that their confidence in the Federal Government would not be abused, as his administration would do its best to justify it.

She was responding to the claim by Buhari that "wicked" past leaders plundered Nigeria and kept the citizens "poor". May urged the administration to remain focused despite the approaching elections, and increase in political activities.

He further advised the electorate to go for younger Nigerians within the age of 45 and 60 years instead of voting for older persons. "Stability at home is important, to curb illegal migration." she said.
