Trump calls Comey 'untruthful slime ball' as book details released

Following several tantrums and attacks coinciding with the release of book excerpts, the president began his Sunday obsessively attacking Comey, the memoir, Bill Clinton and Loretta Lynch. The dossier alleged that Kremlin had a tape of the dirty deed.

The excerpts from Mr Comey's memoir have infuriated the U.S. president, who insisted that he "never asked Comey for personal loyalty" and the he "hardly even knew this guy".

In March 2017, Comey confirmed the FBI was investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election. Regarding a private dinner with Trump where the president demanded loyalty, Comey compared it to the Mafia induction ceremony of Sammy (The Bull) Gravano.

The Republican National Committee helped with the pushback effort against Comey by launching a website and supplying surrogates with talking points that question his credibility.

Trump's tweet storm comes ahead of a highly anticipated interview with Comey on ABC News to be broadcast on Sunday night. That was likely because John Brennan, who was Central Intelligence Agency director under former President Barack Obama, used it in a reply to Trump's tweet. "I was floating above myself looking down saying 'you're sitting here briefing the incoming president of the United States about prostitutes in Moscow'". ABC News ran excerpts of the first interview with him on Friday, and he has interviews scheduled for the coming weeks on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News and PBS, and is slated to tour for more than a month with stops in 11 different cities.

'I recall Trump listening without interrupting, and asking only one question, which was really more of a statement: "But you found there was no impact on the result, right?"

"I know you. You were in an impossible position", Schumer told him, according to Comey.

The dossier was compiled by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele about Trump's ties to Russian Federation and included an allegation that involved prostitutes urinating on one another in a hotel room while Trump watched. Comey said Trump asked him to "prove that it didn't happen", and said it would be "terrible" if his wife Melania Trump believed the claim.

"I don't remember consciously thinking about that", Comey said, "but it must have been".

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway also criticized Comey.

Press secretary Sarah Sanders stood at the White House podium Friday and called Comey "a liar and a leaker" whose loyalty is "only to himself", adding that Comey will "be forever known as a disgraced partisan hack".

Trump fired Comey in May 2017 and said Sunday that he "never asked Comey for Personal Loyalty".

In his tweet, Mr Trump says: "Unbelievably, James Comey states that Polls, where Crooked Hillary was leading, were a factor in the handling (stupidly) of the Clinton Email probe".

The FBI has long tried to operate as an independent law enforcement agency.

Trump's had a very bad week - his personally attorney's office and house was raided. Rather than review it, the Post's White House Bureau Chief Philip Rucker sums it up in a story titled "James Comey's memoir: Trump fixates on proving lewd dossier allegations false".
