Sergey Lavrov could speak on Syria at press conference

The Kremlin on Saturday (April 14) condemned Western air strikes on Syria, where its armed forces are backing President Bashar al-Assad.

But the Russian Foreign Ministry rejected the claims, while Russia's Defense Ministry said that the White Helmets are not a reliable source as they are well-known for spreading false information.

Moscow also said it was calling an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council, where it is a permanent member, to discuss the "aggressive actions" of the U.S. and its allies.

"It's also highly likely an attempt to create complications for the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons mission which was just starting its work in Syria's Douma, or an attempt to completely derail it", Mr Kosachev was quoted as saying.

USA statements that Damascus has denied entry to Eastern Ghouta for experts from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) are far from reality, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Saturday at an annual Assembly of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy. Syria's civil war, which began as a popular uprising against Assad, is now in its eighth year. The Russian military said its chemical experts visited Douma shortly after the alleged attack and found no trace of chemical agents in ground samples. The Syrian government was ready to issue visas immediately on the border, without any additional delay.

Russia's ambassador to the United States warned that there would be consequences for the US-led military strikes, adding that it was not acceptable to insult Russia's President. He didn't elaborate or name the state.

The Russian foreign minister stressed that this development of events can "please only those who are protected by oceans and those who expect to sit out in the process of continuing efforts to ripen the entire region, in order to continue to promote their geopolitical projects here".

Russian Federation has dismissed the purported chemical attack as fake and strongly warned the US and its allies against launching a military strike in Syria.

Anatoly Antonov, the Russian Ambassador to the USA, says the military action threatens Russia - and there will be consequences.

"We are open for those contacts, they help to understand each other better", Lavrov said.
