HMD Global rolls out Android 8.0 Oreo update for Nokia 3

HMD Global rolls out Android 8.0 Oreo update for Nokia 3

In HMD's defense, it is quite unusual for manufacturers to roll out major Android updates for midrange and entry level devices.

HMD Global is one of the companies that is well known for rolling out updates in a timely manner to all their devices, without being partial to only the expensive ones.

Android Oreo may no longer be the hottest topic since Android P already exists albeit as a beta but it is still the version of our favourite operating system that anyone whose device prides itself in having the latest software runs.

"With the Nokia 1, we have combined the reassuring quality and design of a Nokia smartphone with the latest Android Oreo (Go edition) software to deliver exceptional value and realise our dream of creating a complete smartphone experience, accessible to all South Africans", Durandt said.

HMD Global has also rolled out an update for two more smartphones, bringing Android 8.1 Oreo to the Nokia 6 (2018) and Nokia 7 Plus. Priced at Rs 9,499, Nokia 3 can be bought via offline retail stores in India.

The Nokia 3 was the last remaining device of the three that the Finnish company launched in Kenya in July a year ago.

The Nokia 3's modest specifications - a 5-inch HD display, 4G internet access, NFC, 2GB RAM and 16GB onboard storage - mean that it is the only Nokia-branded device worth considering at the low end of the market spectrum. Now available via the OTA route, the software update weighs in at 509 MB in terms of size.

The Nokia 7 Plus is an impressive phone launched during the MWC of 2018. This means those of you who pre-book the Nokia 7 Plus later this month will be able to update the smartphone to Android 8.1 Oreo as soon as you take it out of the box. Another part of the Changelog is the Bluetooth battery percentages and improved navigation buttons for saving the battery.
