Gulf Shores school board offers superintendent job to top candidate

Crestwood School District Superintendent Joseph Gorham has scheduled a "press conference" for Wednesday afternoon, a little bit more than 24 hours before the next school board meeting.

With a vote of 4 to 1, Edwards cast the only opposing vote for McIlroy but said he was here to work with the team without compromising his values. But town meeting representative Dayton DeLorme said increased spending in the prekindergarten-through-grade-12 district will be questioned.

WDAZ's Kenneth Chase joined us in studio with why the school president president is trying to erase his name from accusations of not being transparent.

As expected, though, elementary school enrollment is decreasing, he said.

A local school district is among 135 in the state being honored by the Wisconsin Department of Instruction for its work in educating students while serving a high number of economically disadvantaged families.

In the Superintendent's Report, Nicholas Cipriano announced that the guard rails had been installed at Doyle School, the letters for the Science and Technology Academy were sent out over spring break, and discussed two fundraisers. That would come after years of clashes between some county school boards and charter-school operators about whether charter schools should be allowed to open.

"The school district has benefited from Ken's leadership for nearly 30 years", said Tina Last, school board chair, in the press release on April 16.

The El Dorado County School Boards Association recently recognized school board and community members for their 2017 contributions.

Superintendent Christopher Marchese reiterated his concerns about a plan that would reduce the square footage per student too much because it would make the building too tight.

Spivey and Meggen Sande also declined to say how they would vote.

The line-by-line 2018-19 budget is available on the district's website.

The committee lessened the tax impact by applying $725,000 in school choice funds and $80,000 in other revenue to the proposed budget.

Home and business owners will pay 3 percent more in education costs in fiscal 2019, the highest tax-burden increase in five years.

Rather than speak negatively in the months ahead about what was decided, board members who voted "no" should now turn their attention to helping their colleagues and the administration bring the project to reality by the best show of harmony possible.

The board also recognized several students from Winfree Bryant Middle School during its student spotlight portion for various accomplishments, including Kate Adams, who will present her project, Fashion Stashion, in Washington an upcoming national competition. School board president Mona Kirk said there were 15 completed applications received and six were selected from that pool.
