Hussian and Hassan Nawaz are UK-based and have been absconding since the proceedings began previous year, however, the former premier has been showing up regularly before the court of judge Muhammad Bashir.

A Pakistani high court has banned TV stations from airing alleged anti-judiciary speeches of the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and other party leaders of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for the next 15 days.

The court directed the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, or Pemra, to take a call on the petitions filed against the Sharifs within 15 days.

A day after the Lahore High Court (LHC) passed a judgement temporarily banning "anti-judiciary" speeches by former Nawaz Sharif and others, the Supreme Court on Tuesday took suo motu notice on the verdict passed by the lower court.

During the hearing headed by Justice Mohammad Bashir, Maryam Nawaz's lawyer Amjad Pervez has completed cross-examination of Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) head Wajid Zia after five days.

The bench observed that the high court has only ordered PEMRA to enforce the law, adding that the court can not curtail fundamental rights. "It is part of the code of conduct that a (judicial) matter can not be discussed until the court takes the final decision; however, news channels have been crossing the limit by broadcasting talk shows on such cases", said Chudhry Khadim Huddain, editor of a national daily.

"We have also asked the registrar to place the judgment on record", added Justice Nisar.

The Attorney General read out the LHC verdict in the courtroom, saying it had directed the Pemra to stop news channels from airing speeches against the judiciary and judges.

Despite summons, no one represented the PML-N leaders.

Earlier on hearing of 13th of April, the court approved the exemption request of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and daughter Maryam as they could not depart from Lahore due to the inclement weather.
