Bruins Fall to Maple Leafs 4-2 in Game 3

The move from the Montreal Canadiens to the Maple Leafs has not been an easy one for Plekanec.

Early in Boston's 4-2 loss in Game 3 to the Toronto Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre, Bruins foward Riley Nash was handed a delay of game penalty for clearing the puck over the glass from inside his zone. They'll make mistakes, we'll make mistakes.

"Them" would refer loosely to the Leafs youthful skill brigade of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander and Kasperi Kapanen.

If you enjoy frequent bouts of nausea and faintness followed by soul-crushing sadness and total jubilation, then Freddie Andersen's turbulent Game 3 performance is right in your wheelhouse. It was the type of goal that has defined Matthews in his young career with a nose for the net and a quick release in traffic. It was the first time in the series the Leafs scored first.

"They're a good team, they've played well all year, especially at home", Bruins forward Brad Marchand said. Largely meaningless to this current group, of course, but the Bruins are 12-2 in their last 14 Game 3 contests dating back to 2010. "It's all we'll focus on right now".

Not only was it the first goal of the game, it was the first time the Leafs held a lead in the series and it was their second power-play goal in eight chances.

"I think an early save on their first goal (in Game 2) would have been huge and that's playoff hockey for you", said Andersen.

"It happens in your life".

But the Bruins again responded when Chara ripped a shot off Andersen's mask and in from an impossible angle at 6:19.

Now let's see if they can do it again on Thursday night against a Bruins team unlikely to miss 18 shots, ring four posts, and allow every home run pass to connect in Game 4.

"They were tight on us and we have to battle through and be better", said Bergeron. "We've got some work to do and can continue to improve and we can try to change the story". "He was really good for us". A lot of that had to do with how dominant defenceman Morgan Rielly was all night. In fact, they still controlled the pace of play, and found their offensive chances, even with a turtleneck draped on them. There were at least three giveaways in the first period, two by the defence, and in the first two games the Bruins would surely have put those pucks in the net.

In particular, Cassidy felt that since the officials gathered at centre ice to discuss the call there was some confusion. "Sometimes you make that save and we build off that". Frederik Andersen was spectacular, making save after save on what looked liked for sure goals. In an oddity going the other way, van Riemsdyk was able to get some rare traction on the Big Zee, slipping under his wing to get a goal from the doorstep.

Bergeron, Marchand and Pastrnak have already combined for 20 points (5 goals, 15 assists) in the series, as the Bruins collected a pair of blowout wins at TD Garden.

The third- period was very fast paced with very few whistles. Both were handed minors.
