After the success of Redmi 5, Xiaomi India last week announced that it will launch its latest budget smartphone Redmi 5 in India on March 14. The upcoming smartphone will complete Xiaomi's affordable lineup for 2018 and will be an Amazon exclusive product.

Xiaomi has been teasing the upcoming device for quite some time using the hashtag #CompactPowerhouse on its social media channels. Xiaomi Redmi 5 was first launched in China past year, along with the Redmi 5 Plus. Xiaomi is hosting an online launch event at 3pm IST on Wednesday where all the details related to price, specifications, and first sale date of the smartphone will be revealed. In China, Redmi 5 has been priced starting at CNY 799 which roughly translates around Rs 7,800 for the base variant which packs 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage.

Here's what you can expect with the Redmi 5 launch and how to watch it live. The Note series is also better in terms of specifications and thus are priced slightly higher than the Redmi series phones. There are also speculations about the same LIVE being streamed on YouTube and Xiaomi's official Facebook page as well. Alternatively, you can also watch the live stream on Xiaomi's official Mi.com website, where it is now running a countdown for the launch event.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 adorns a 5.7-inch HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The smartphone comes with a microSD card facilitating expandable storage.

The 3 GB variant of Redmi Note 5 will be available for Rs 9,999, while its 4 GB variant can be priced at Rs 11,999.

On the photography front, the Redmi 5 features a 12MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF and an LED flash.

In China, Redmi 5 was launched in three variants: 2GB RAM+16GB storage, 3GB RAM+32GB storage and 4GB RAM+32GB storage. The selfie camera also comes with company's own proprietary beautify 3.0 capabilities. On the front is a 5-megapixel selfie camera with a "soft-light" flash module. The other goodies on board the Redmi 5 are Android 7.1 Nougat topped with MIUI 9, 4G VoLTE, dual SIM support and a 3300mAh battery.
