TV pundit Carragher sorry for spitting at girl in car

The incident, which was caught on a mobile phone and obtained by the Daily Mirror, came following the Saturday lunch-time match at Old Trafford, with Carragher embroiled in a tasteless episode while driving, ending with him winding down his window and spitting towards another auto carrying a teenage girl.

The football pundit and former Liverpool defender claimed that he was taunted several times by the man after he left Old Trafford in his Range Rover following United's 2-1 win over the Reds.

Mobile phone footage, obtained by The Mirror, shows Carragher winding down his vehicle window and spitting in the direction of the auto after the driver, who was filming the incident on his mobile phone, repeatedly mentions the score of the game at Old Trafford.

The girl can be heard saying "he spat on me" and saying "on my face" when asked "where did it hit you?".

In a tweet last night, Carragher wrote: "Totally out of order & Ive apologised personally to all the family this evening". I thought, "Why has he done that". I could not believe what had happened.

"What did she do wrong?"

"In all the years I've watched football, isn't it all about banter? It was nothing. I could understand if someone was in his face, giving him abuse".

Carragher has since moved to condemn his actions. I have not done anything abusive to him, I've not stuck two fingers up at him. I thought, 'Jamie Carragher, he is going to be up for a laugh.' So when he did spit I was taken aback. "I will apologise to the daughter".

"There is no two ways about it".

Now working in the media, Carragher was covering the encounter at Old Trafford and then found himself involved in an unseemly incident on the motorway afterwards.
