Trump fires his personal assistant, John McEntee, then Trump campaign hires him

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump fired longtime personal aide John McEntee, who had been with Trump since the early stages of his 2016 campaign.

It was not clear why a clearances issue would have warranted the abrupt removal of McEntee from the White House grounds.

The charges are not related to the President, the source said.

McEntee was sacked and escorted out of the White House Monday, CNN reported, due to difficulties obtaining a permanent security clearance, an issue that has led to the departure of several White House staffers. A former quarterback for the University of Connecticut, McEntee was a "constant presence at Mr. Trump's side for the last three years", according to the Wall Street Journal, which first broke the news. Two sources said McEntee was pushed out because of issues with his security clearance, making him just the latest aide to be forced out because of difficulties obtaining a full security clearance. The White House did not comment on the firing.

Trump's personal assistant - also known as a body man - McEntee accompanied the president nearly everywhere and had been an aide for him since early in the campaign.

Concerns over White House staffers' security clearances have punctuated much of the West Wing news over the past several weeks. The role meant McEntee was almost constantly at the President's side.

Trump's campaign hired him soon after he was sacked from his White House job. White House chief of staff John Kelly has come under fire for his handling of clearances as dozens of staffers had yet to be approved for permanent clearance as of February.

"We need the help of proven leaders such as Katrina and John to promote the President's growing portfolio of achievements across the country", campaign manager Brad Parscale said in a statement.
