'Moderate' spring hiring expected in Cornwall: Manpower

Florida employers expect to hire at a rapid pace between April and June, according to a quarterly forecast by staffing company ManpowerGroup.

The Services sector remains stable and prosperous, also with a score of (+28 percent) for hiring prospects, evidencing a six percent increase over the same quarter of 2017. While there won't be layoffs, hiring as such will be lower than in previous quarters.

With seasonal variations removed from the data, the survey predicts a 14 per cent increase in hiring; a 2 per cent increase compared to the previous quarter, and an increase of 7 per cent from this time a year ago.

Regional comparisons Staffing levels are expected to increase in all five regions during 2Q 2018. Hiring plans improve in 13 countries quarter-over-quarter, weaken in eight and are unchanged in four.

The strong national result is unchanged when compared to the same period previous year, but declines by three percentage points quarter-on-quarter.

Employers in all four regions expect to increase payrolls during the next three months, with strong hiring prospects reported in two regions - north and south, a net employment outlook each of 17%. Employers in Wholesale & Retail Trade report some of the most optimistic Outlooks in more than 16 years as online retail continues to grow and the increase in distribution workers is expected to rise. The weakest hiring plans are reported in Mining, Government Information and Nondurable Goods Manufacturing.

Employers in all four regions in the USA report a positive hiring outlook for Q2 2018.

Mining and Construction report an outlook of (+26 percent) and the number appears to be improving considerably both quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year.

The advisory firm said large enterprises with a workforce of 250 employees or more have a higher hiring outlook than their medium and small-sized counterparts, with the net employment outlook at 29 percent. The strongest labour market is forecast in the finance, insurance, real estate and business services sector, where the Net Employment Outlook stands at +15%. Meanwhile, public and social sector employers report no quarter-over-quarter change and a relative stability when compared with this time one year ago.

Those are the findings from a survey conducted by workforce analysts at ManpowerGroup.

Globally, among the countries and territories featuring seasonally adjusted data, confidence is strongest in Taiwan, Japan, Hungary and the USA, while the weakest hiring prospects are reported in Italy, the Czech Republic and Switzerland, the survey said.

Of the more than 11,500 US employers who participated in the survey, 23 percent plan to hire; 3 percent plan to reduce staff; 73 percent expect to maintain current workforce levels; and 1 percent don't know.
