Manufacturers can now add their own commands in Google Assistant

The new features are available for action developers starting from today, however, the other users will be able to see the changes in the future as the updates roll out. You'll be able to subscribe to notifications from Actions. For example, you can tell Assistant you want a daily update on cryptocurrency prices from CoinBase.

If you find yourself using Google Assistant frequently, you may have realized that there's a lot it can do within the realm of general instructions like "raise the room temperature", or "turn on the lights" that don't particularly require intermediary support from the connected third-party appliance or program.

For example, Todoist, the project management app, comes with support for Actions, in regards to hyper-specific commands to the app like "Mark the first task under Project 'make your graduation film' as done'". With media playback controls, you can use your voice to control any media being played by Actions or use your phone's screen to play, pause, replay items, and turn off your screen while the audio plays in the background.

Assistant will now also be able to show you information in a carousel like view within the Assistant panel. A user will also receive media notifications from where they can manage their playback.

Let's have a look at what Google has in store for the users related to its AI assistant.

Subscriptions have been quite a useful inclusion in Assistant, and now they're expanding to third parties. However, for this to work developers need to implement this and push out an update for Google review.

In a blog post, Group Product Manager, Brad Abrams & Product Manager Chris Ramsdale outlined new features coming to Assistant which includes Subscriptions, better Media Playback controls and the ability for OEMs to add custom commands to their devices. Now you can say a more specific command such as "Ok Google, set the oven to convection and preheat to 350-degrees".

Assistant Actions now support something Google is calling "Custom Device Actions".
