Gautam Gambhir looks forward to 'peaceful Delhi' dressing room

Gautam Gambhir will be in his second stint with the Delhi Daredevils after exiting the two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the 2018 IPL auction.

He captained the side in seven successive seasons.

Speaking about the appointment, head coach Ponting said: "Gauti has been a leader for a very long time".

Press Trust of India FMCG major Cargill India on Wednesday announced it will be a principal sponsor of GMR Group-owned IPL cricket team Delhi Daredevils, for the 2018 season. "I firmly believe that with the players now involved we have the makings of a very good side", Gambhir said. Gambhir was brought by Rs 2.8 crore during the IPL auction in January keeping in mind the captaincy role, a decision that was confirmed by the franchise on Tuesday.

The two-time World Cup winning player added, "The potential of this group of players is huge and it is now up to us to turn that potential into consistent performances".

Delhi have assembled a solid looking unit this season and Gambhir is the right choice to lead the side. "I firmly believe that with the players now involved we have the makings of a very good side", he added. "I played with them for three years, and somewhere, deep within my heart, I'd love to finish with Delhi", he had said. "It is all about playing to our potential", Gambhir told ANI. It is the drive behind the outward confidence which I think will inspire the rest of the team. Both Ricky [Ponting] and Gauti have spoken to each other. I played for three years for Delhi (Daredevils). "It is one thing to play the IPL knowing that you are doing it to prove yourself and another to using it for a motive".

The 2018 IPL begins on April 7, but the Daredevils will kick off their campaign a day later against the Kings XI Punjab.
