Dolphins reportedly set to release superstar Ndamukong Suh, seeking 'culture change'

Dolphins reportedly set to release superstar Ndamukong Suh, seeking 'culture change'

According to ESPN's Jeff Darlington, the plan is for the Dolphins to release Suh today.

Miami already has offloaded running back Jay Ajayi last season, and last week sent wide receiver Jarvis Landry to the Browns.

They made the playoffs once with Suh on the roster and are preparing to cut him three years into the deal, so to say that signing him to one of the largest contracts in National Football League history was not a success would be an understatement. Suh carried a $26.1 million cap hit in 2018.

Last week, the Miami Herald reported the Miami Dolphins hadn't ruled out cutting star DT Ndamukong Suh after signing him to a six-year, $114 million contract a few years back.

If Suh is designated as a post-June 1 cut, the team would save $17 million against the 2018 salary cap. Overall, he's been named First-Team All-Pro four times and appeared in five Pro Bowls during eight seasons with the Lions and Dolphins.

The team will reportedly make it official on Wednesday.

Suh posted a video on social media Sunday in which he said, "There will be some exciting things going on".

In three years with the Dolphins, Suh had 15.5 sacks.

The Seahawks would have to consider a number of variables before offering a contract to Suh, including his past history of being suspended for on-field behavior.

Cutting Suh will save the Dolphins almost $17 million in cap room but create a monster $22-plus million dead cap hit, according to Spotrac. The only two games Suh missed in his career were due to a suspension after he stomped on then-Green Bay offensive lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith in 2011.
