Android P embraces the notch as it kills the Nexus

There's always a chance that Google changes its mind and pushes Android P to the two 2015 Nexus phones, but don't bet on it. Android P will not support Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P as well as the often-forgotten Pixel C tablet.

As expected, Android P brings support for the notch, something that Apple popularized with the iPhone X and is now being widely embraced by Android OEMs. Speaking of which, the app drawer also looks different, although I'm not sure if this is due to Android P being as new as it is or not. Messaging apps can now show some of the most recent messages from a conversation within notifications, and they can also now display smart replies right within the notifications. We're just two months out from Google I/O, where we'll certainly get more details on what to expect from the latest version of Android. The Android P Developer Preview 1 is only available for Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, and Pixel 2 XL and can be flashed via Firmware Images or OTA files. It has the ability to access streams from multiple physical cameras at once along with built-in support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) VP9 Profile 2, HEIF and Media APIs. This build is out about as early in the development process as possible, making way for app developers to create their apps with optimizations for P well in advance of its release. With Android P, Pixel launcher now carries a transparent, cloudy shade to highlight the dock.

The tool leverages Google's artificial intelligence (AI) efforts and computer vision to analyse photos to display relevant information. The app made its debut during the 2017 Google I/O conference.

The Android P easter egg is in the same place as previous versions of the operating system, but some things have changed. Google Assistant is now limited to some Android devices. Some of the new features added to the Console include Product Models, Product Sharing, Analytics, and Update Channels. But more importantly, Google is finally preventing idle apps from accessing your camera and microphone with Android P.
