United States congressional panel probes White House on Porter abuse accusations: chairman

"How do you have any job if you have credible allegations of domestic abuse?" said Gowdy, who announced two weeks ago that he was not running for re-election.

He told reporters "Come on, clearly we all should be condemning domestic violence".

Rob Porter, who as staff secretary handled the president's paper flow, resigned last week.

FBI Director Christopher Wray says the bureau gave the Trump administration information on multiple occasions previous year regarding Rob Porter, who has been accused of domestic abuse by his two ex-wives. "As Director Wray said, information was still coming to the White House personnel security office in February", she said. Again, I am biased towards the victims, ' the former federal prosecutor from SC told CNN's New Day.

Trump's updated disclosure form shows that Kushner appears to have tapped three different lines of credit since he began working at the White House.

- Lawmakers on Capitol Hill want to know how former presidential aide Rob Porter was allowed to work at the White House under an interim security clearance - despite allegations of spousal abuse.

FBI Director Christopher Wray testified Tuesday that the White House got four separate notifications about Rob Porter.

Wray's testimony on Tuesday marked the latest development in a scandal that has called into question the judgment of senior members of the White House staff, put new stress on the administration's already strained credibility with the public, and drawn accusations of tone-deaf handling of abuse allegations.

Porter has resigned from the White House. McGahn told Kelly last fall there was concern about information in the background investigation involving Porter's ex-wives, the official said, and Kelly expressed surprise that Porter had previously been married.

Ryan said that with the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program tied up in courts, the March 5 deadline set by the Trump administration is "not as important", though he added that Congress operates better with a timeline. Porter was denied a permanent security clearance after two former spouses said he was verbally and physically abusive.

"The committee is investigating the policies and procedures by which interim security clearances are investigated and adjudicated within the executive branch, and the extent to which any security clearance issued to Porter comported with those policies and process", Gowdy wrote to White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, Porter's boss.

'What did you know, from whom did you hear it?' Gowdy said.
