Winter storm and Arctic blast roar across East

As snow spreads across the mountains on Wednesday, Denver and the Front Range should see rain showers during the afternoon and maybe a brief period of snow Wednesday evening. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Friday's forecast is tough to say the least!

The Weather Service said rain is expected change to freezing rain around 6 p.m.in Northwest Arkansas and then to sleet around two to three hours later.

Rain will start in the Sacramento area around 5 a.m. and continue throughout the day, with temperatures staying in the mid 50's.

There will be a chance for light snow accumulations Sunday night into Monday morning.

The precipitation will usher in cold and blustery conditions. "Lesser amounts west with increasing amounts east. Indianapolis is right in the middle, expecting around 2-4" of snow through this evening. Areas along and west of I-65 (Louisville, Elizabethtown, & Bowling Green) are under a Winter Storm Warning.

Intermittent rain is expected to begin Thursday evening with rainfall totals up to an inch and a half before the precipitation turns to a wintry mix Friday night into Saturday morning. We expect rain showers and 40s for Friday morning. No possible accumulation figures were given.

The winter storm warning is in effect from 4 a.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday.

Temperatures will drop into the 20s tonight and may not budge much during the day on Saturday, with highs in north Alabama only rising into the low 30s. "Ice accumulation of a trace to 0.25" possible early. Ice and snow accumulations are expected to be higher across northeast OH and northwest Pennsylvania with somewhat higher snow amounts in the snowbelt of northeast OH and northwest Pennsylvania. Windy, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 miles per hour increasing to 25 to 30 miles per hour in the morning.

Morning lows near single digits and breezy early Saturday with wind chills 0° to -10° tomorrow.

Look for sunny skies Sunday, with a high near 18.
