Trump's 'shithole' comments stirred anger and condemnation, but not from everyone

Mr Trump's alleged comments came during an Oval Office meeting on Thursday where he questioned why America would accept more immigrants from Haiti and "shithole countries" in Africa as he rejected a bipartisan immigration deal.

Durbin, the second-highest-ranking Democrat in the Senate, described the president's words as "hateful, vile and racist".

Trump issued a kind of non-denial denial when he took to Twitter on Friday.

"In the course of (Trump's) comments, he said things that were hate-filled, vile and racist", the IL senator said Friday.

In Friday's Facebook post, Clinton said the US should support Haiti and its people and "help them reach their full potential".

Johnson also took issue with Isaac Newton Farris Jr., Martin Luther King Jr.'s nephew, who told CNN after participating in a White House event honoring his uncle that he believes Trump is "racially ignorant and racially uninformed", but does not believe Trump is a "racist in the traditional sense". Trump later denied using the vulgar phrase, but said he used "tough" language at the meeting.

"Why are we having all these people from s***hole countries come here?" He said, 'Oh, that's a good line.' And then when I talked to him about the impact this has on family unification, in a nation that values families with the flag as the most important symbols of our future, they scoffed at this notion.

Though many people find the president's remarks distasteful, Sherman doesn't believe there was anything said that was impeachable.

"Today, January 12, marks the commemoration of the natural disaster that devastated Haiti eight years ago", Jean said in a statement, "and it was so disturbing this morning to hear President Trump's comments reported all over the news calling my poor native land and African countries "shithole" nations".

The UN diplomats met for an emergency session before issuing a joint statement to demand a "retraction and an apology" from the U.S. president.

Trump denied in a tweet that he used the controversial language. "All I can say is people from every nationality contribute across all industries, and two women from Trinidad and Ghana cared for my mother like she was their own".

Haitians and Africans in Maryland say they don't think they should be written off. But you can go read a book, a history book, because you might learn that people from some of those "shithole countries" were slaves who were brought here, by force, to help build this country. "I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians". He was taken aback by remarks attributed to President Trump, referring to some immigrant nations as "sh**hole" countries. "The President and all those attending the meeting know what I said and how I feel". "Let me be clear, the people of Haiti have been through more, withstood more, fought back against more injustice than our president ever has", an obviously choked-up Cooper said.
