Sensex, Nifty End in Green After Falling Following SC Judges Press Conference

The 30-share Sensex was trading lower by 69 points or 0.20 per cent at 34,373.45 1230 hrs.

Asian markets were mixed, U.S. equities rose to record highs yesterday as investors remained optimistic about the market heading into the corporate earnings season.

It was a volatile day and last minute buying pushed the index towards fresh closing high on Nifty on Thursday, but most analysts are losing conviction in the Bull run at least in the short term.

On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the wider Nifty50 edged higher by 30.05 points or 0.07 per cent to close at 10,681.25 points.

Out of 2,005 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,130 advanced, 504 declined and 371 remained unchanged today.

The Nifty50 too had opened at a fresh level of 10,682.55 points and touched a new intra-day high of 10,690.25 points. In an unprecedented move, Justice Chelameswar and three other senior judges today held a press conference on various issues relating to the apex court judiciary.

On the currency front, the Indian rupee strengthened by three paise to close at 63.63 against the USA dollar from its previous close at 63.66.

On the sectoral front, Media rose 1.71 per cent, Private Bank 0.52 per cent, Finance Service 0.43 per cent, Bank 0.34 per cent and Auto 0.31 per cent.

In the broader markets, the S&P BSE mid-cap index closed lower by 0.17 per cent, while the small-cap index closed a tad higher by 0.05 per cent. Among them, metal index gained the most by 0.71%, capital goods 0.61%, infrastructure 0.56% and banking 0.47%, while IT Index was down 0.1%.

Losers included UPL, Aurobindo Pharma, Lupin, Bharti Airtel, Bosch, Ambuja Cement and ITC.
