Man kills mother after video game tantrum

Nicholson grabbed a handgun from inside home and fired two rounds into a wall before turning the gun on his mother and shooting her in the head.

Investigators told KCRA that 28-year-old Matthew Nicholson was alone in his room late Thursday when he started yelling out in anger after losing a video game.

An investigation is ongoing, police said.

"It was the father calling to report that the son had shot his wife in the head", Ceres Police Sgt. Greg Yotsuya said, according to a report by KTXL.

"[She] had so much compassion for people and just wanted to see the best in people at all times", said Autumn Nicholson of her mother.

"My mom was a wonderful person who loved her children. This house has always been open to friends and family and it's always been a family atmosphere".

According to police reports, both parents were blamed - and threatened - resulting in Nicholson pointing to the gun to his mother before his father could relinquish him of his weapon.

Lydia Nicholson worked and volunteered in local schools. Neighbors say the family is friendly, and they are shocked by her murder. KCRA reported that police spotted the vehicle and arrested Nicholson without incident. "Speechless", said Ron Kutzman, a neighbor of the Nicholson family. When his mother went to check on him, he began to argue with her and ended up breaking the headset to his video game.

Investigators are still working to determine what drove this man to kill his own mother. "Was it the video game or was there something else going on".

He was placed under arrested and booked into Stanislaus County Jail without bail.
