Land Rover Defender Works V8 70th Edition

Land Rover Defender Works V8 70th Edition

That makes it the most powerful and fastest version of the Defender Land Rover has ever produced, capable of accelerating from 0-60mph in 5.6 seconds, and onto a top speed of 106mph. More than this, the V8-powered Defenders pay homage to the Series III Stage I V8 from 1979 and subsequent V8 Defenders, including the 50th anniversary variant. This is a limited edition run of 150 old-style Defenders that have gone through the expert hands of the craftspeople working at the Jaguar Land Rover Classic division.

The brakes have - thankfully - been upgraded, and it's been given a "handling kit" with uprated springs, dampers and anti-roll bars.

The British marque's local arm does not plan to officially offer the Defender Works V8 into Australia, however, resourceful collectors may find a way to import their own example.

It's no doubt terrifying that an old-school off-roader with a serious lack of on-street skills will be able to pack such a punch and reach 62 miles per hour (100 kph) in just 5.6 seconds while on its way towards a bonkers 106 miles per hour (170 kph) limited top speed. It's a auto that Land Rover stopped selling a couple of years ago, for reasons that are clear to anyone who's driven one: it was slow, old-fashioned, not particularly safe by modern standards and nearly uniquely unrefined.

The V8 incarnation had been discussed by the company as far back as 2014, when the regular model was still in production. Eight standard body colours will be available for the reborn Land Rover Defender with two satin finishes contrasting with a Santorini Black roof, wheel arches and front grille. Exterior upgrades include exclusive 18-inch alloys, machined aluminium door handles, fuel filler cap and Defender bonnet lettering plus bi-LED headlamps.

There will be just 150 specially-selected and re-engineered vehicles. Both 90 and 110 wheelbase Defender Works V8 derivatives will be available to purchase direct from Land Rover Classic, with prices starting from £150 000 (R2.53 million) for a 90 in the UK.

Land Rover Classic also announced that it will be releasing new performance upgrades for Land Rover owners to fit to their own Defenders, such as new diesel engines, chassis upgrades and braking systems.

Inside, the Defender Works lays on as much luxury as the "cosy" cabin allows, with full Windsor leather interior, Recaro sports seats and.
