Freedom House: Georgia still most free in region

Democracy is under assault and in retreat around the globe, a crisis that has intensified as America's democratic standards erode at an accelerating pace, according to Freedom in the World 2018, the latest edition of the annual report on political rights and civil liberties, released on Tuesday by Freedom House.

According to the report Freedom in the World 2018, Kyrgyzstan is the only country in Central Asia rated as "partly free".

"Ukraine got three points out of a possible seven, where seven is the worst indicator for the level of political and civil liberties".

The forced resignation under military pressure of elected president Robert Mugabe pushed Zimbabwe over the threshold from Partly Free to Not Free. "The government has even pressed its crackdown beyond Turkey's borders, triggering a flood of Interpol "red notice" requests to detain critics overseas, among other effects", the report said.

The "Freedom in the World" 2018 report, published on January 16, ruled that Turkey's "political rights rating" had declined from 4 to 5 and its "civil liberties rating" had declined from 5 to 6.

Democratic freedom declines in Poland, globally: report

The recent study indicates this phenomena as other reports deduce that global press freedom and democracies are reducing notwithstanding democracy being the proposed form of government worldwide.

Freedom House concluded that freedom in the United States had suffered under Donald Trump and America was among the country's whose scores had declined, although it was still classified as a free country.

Syria came at the bottom of the table with -1 while North Korea and Eritrea were both on 3.

Russian Federation and majority of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) were found to be not free.

Freedom House says it is an independent body and its assessment reflects its own examination of the data.
