Dion Waiters may undergo season-ending surgery

Dion Waiters is expected to have season-ending surgery on his injured left ankle, according to Yahoo's Shams Charania.

A report indicated that Waiters was contemplating getting surgery on his ankle after speaking to multiple doctors on how to proceed. According to Shams Charania of The Vertical, he's opted to undergo season-ending surgery.

Waiters, who hasn't played since December 22, said last month he was aiming to delay surgery until the offseason after forgoing the option to have a procedure over the summer.

Waiters' year ends with 14.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 23.7 FanDuel points per game. Waiters has received second opinions before making his final decision. Waiters' expected absence for the rest of the season is a major blow for Miami's depth. It is a brutal end to the first year of Waiters' four-year deal that he signed with Miami over the offseason, one that will pay him a total of $52 million.

The Heat have won six straight games and moved into fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings with a 24-17 record.
