Boat with 40 students capsizes

Search and rescue operations have been launched with Navy and Coast Guard teams being sent to the area.

The boat was capsized due to overcrowding and the boat tilted on one side while the children were having fun. Dahanu is about 100 kilometres away from the Mumbai city where the incident took place.

32 school children have been rescued by Coast Guard, while the search for the remaining ones is still underway. But there has been no official confirmation on the death toll so far.

Immediately, District Police and the locals rushed in and saved the students. According to the sources, the coast guard has diverted other ships from the sea. The boat developed a snag and capsized at around 1200 hrs. According to eye witnesses, the boat was overcrowded and the students were not wearing life jackets. And now the parents of KL Ponda school children are asking to book the boat operators for not following safety precautions.
