Bayer Leverkusen v Bayern Munich

Bayer Leverkusen v Bayern Munich

Bayern can open up a 14-point lead - at least temporarily - with victory in Leverkusen, but their fourth-placed hosts possess a number of particularly threatening players, with Heynckes highlighting Leon Bailey, Julian Brandt and Kai Havertz.

Bayern will be missing key stars.

The win for Bayern however highlighted a serious issue for Leverkusen as they seemed to have no plan-b.

Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes has praised his sides defensive display following their 3-1 away win against Bayer Leverkusen on Friday night.

Both Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski and defender Mats Hummels are recovering from knee and groin injuries respectively, while right-back Joshua Kimmich has a cold. Both Ribery and Bayern's other veteran winger Arjen Robben, 34, are out of contract in June and the pair hope to be offered extensions in the coming weeks.

Ribery, who has spent a decade at Bayern, rolled back the years by scything through Leverkusen's defence and slamming home Bayern's superb second goal.

"Mark Uth is now the best German goal scorer in the Bundesliga and will really improve our attacking options from the summer", said Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel.

Goals from Javi Martinez, Franck Ribery and a superb free-kick from James Rodriguez gave Bayern the win on the night.

- Heynckes to stay on?

"I've already said everything about that", Heynckes said to more questions on his future at the team's winter training camp in Qatar. "If we all stay fit that will definitely help, but we also need good combinations, lots of movement off the ball, plus to mix up the tempo". Kevin Volland leads the club with nine goals and needs a strong second half of the season to secure his position on the German roster for the World Cup.

Wagner's career has come full circle after spells at Werder Bremen, Kaiserslautern, Hertha Berlin, Darmstadt and most recently Hoffenheim, winning his first cap for Germany previous year and has scored five goals in seven appearances for his country.
