Arizona trails Oregon State 22-21 at halftime

The loss drops Oregon State to 2-2 in Pac-12 play.

Tinkle is the top scorer for the Beavers on the season as well with 18.3 PPG and 7.1 RPG. Against Arizona State he had 18 points, tying with Elijah Brown for the team high, along with 4 rebounds and 6 assists.

The Beavers (10-5, 2-1 Pac-12) have wins over both the Ducks and Buffaloes and suffered their only conference defeat in a 2-point loss to Utah.

Since that loss to the Sun Devils on January 31, 2014, the Beavers have gone 113-21 overall.

Reserve Roman Sorkin had 13 points, and MiKyle McIntosh finished with 12 points and a season-high 13 rebounds for the Ducks (12-5, 2-2 Pac-12). It was the first ranked opponent the Ducks had faced all season and they edged the Sun Devils after a seesaw affair which was tied at 41 at halftime.

OR has not seen the Top 25 Rankings this season and according to Ken Pomeroy enter this week as the 65 best team.

"I am happy with our defensive effort", Arizona coach Sean Miller said.

"They're a much improved team, not only from last year to this year, that's obvious, but I think they're a very much improved team from the beginning of the year to now", Miller said. Sophomore Mikayla Pivec has handled much of the point guard duties, and she hadn't played the position since the seventh grade.

On offense, particularly in that closing half, OR had a very simple formula: Get dribble penetration, see where the defense rotates, pass to who is open, shoot - OR work hard for offensive rebounds. The Beavers have won two of their last three, most recently against OR on Friday.

That zone frustrated the Sun Devils offensively, who had seven of their 11 turnovers in the second half. Seth Berger played well again with four points, on 2-for-3 shooting, and six rebounds. Robbi Ryan (9.6) and Courtney Ekmark (9.2) are close.

Rueck said the Sun Devils' numbers defensively are down a bit but their offensive ones are better. "They've got scoring coming off their bench as well so they're deep, they play really hard. They do a really good job". That's the reason they're 13-3.

Over on the Arizona side, they're sitting at 12-4 on the year.
