World's largest Starbucks opens in China and it's 30000 square feet

SHANGHAI | Starbucks has opened on Wednesday in Shanghai its more spacious facility world, at a time when the american giant intends to establish itself in China, a country where the consumption of coffee explodes after having always been confidential. You can even order coffee-enhanced beer. Well, it exists now in Shanghai, China. The new store will roast beans on site in a massive copper cask.

Customers standing in front of the roasting cask at the first Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Asia will see a two-story copper vessel adorned with almost 3,000 hand-carved traditional Chinese chops or stamps.

The new Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Shanghai is the firm's largest, spanning 30,000 feet, and includes a 3D-printed tea bar. "It's like Alice in Wonderland meets Willy Wonka", Emily Chang, senior vice president and CMO for Starbucks, China, said in another release. Although Shanghai already has over 600 Starbuck stores, Shanghai's Roastery is twice the size of Seattle's. Because you know, coffee is already such a deeply sensorial experience, even before the first sip: from hearing the unmistakable sound of beans being freshly ground, to inhaling that rich aroma and sipping your ideal blend, brewed just right.

Trays of temptation sit everywhere, filled with Italian-style croissant called cornetti, breads studded with olives, tomatoes and fresh herbs and even a gourmet take on cinnamon rolls. It's as if they've gone through the looking glass via their phones, peering inside the cask to watch an animated version of newly roasted beans dropping into the cask.

The AR experience-which can be accessed through the roastery's digital web app platform or on Alibaba's Taobao app-acts as sort of a virtual tour guide for customers, explaining the different steps of the coffee-making process. Some have had to wait an hour before being able to place an order. "It's coffee as theater", Jiang said. After earning them all, they can receive a custom Roastery social media filter to share online.

Starbucks Reserve Roastery Shanghai has also teamed up with Princi, a bakery found in Milan and London, which will provide pastries to accompany the coffee brewed by baristas at three of its bars in the new store. The one bright spot was China, which stood out as Starbucks' fastest growing market.

Looking to the future, Schultz also told CNBC's Sorkin that the USA -based coffee chain could become a "cashless retailer". That's why the digital designers didn't want Roastery visitors to have to be pulled out of the spell to go stand in line to order. Created from recycled materials using a 3-D printer and 25-ft.in length, the tea bar is a light jade color with dark shadows to represent tea stains formed in a teapot over time.

The ceiling is covered in 10,000 handmade tiles made from American walnut, that are hexagonal in shape and apparently inspired by the locking of an espresso shot on an espresso machine.

But most importantly, perhaps, it's serving hope to Chinese customers that they are the future, and they deserve the best a global brand like Starbucks has to offer.
