Sioux Falls' USPS processing center is In a holiday rush

If you want to avoid higher prices and the stress of wondering whether or not your packages are going to get delivered before Christmas Day, then you need to make sure you head to your nearby post office by Friday.

The Postal Service is projecting about 15 billion pieces of mail, including more than 850 million packages, will be delivered between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve.

The nation's largest shipping companies expect to deliver record numbers of packages.

There are only 10 more days until Christmas, but you have even less time to get a letter or package to the mainland in time for the holidays. Postal Carriers in the Cornhusker State are on pace to deliver a record 4.5 million packages for the holidays. Tuesday the 19th is First Class Mail and greeting cards. For USPS domestic shipping, the First Class package service deadline is also Dec.19 and for Priority Mail it's December 20.

With an increase in early and online shopping for gifts, there is no longer a "busiest day" for holiday shipping.

Friday, December 22, 2017, is the very last day to get a package to its destination in the U.S. for those who wait until the last minute. To help the families and friends of USA military personnel, the USPS offers a $1.50 discount on its largest Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes.
