Ryan Reynolds To Star In 'Pokemon' Movie 'Detective Pikachu'

Reynolds is used to being a hero.

Reynolds joins Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom actor Justice Smith and Big Little Lies standout Kathryn Newton, who play the film's male and female leads, respectively.

IGN reports Reynolds had been one of several names reportedly being considered for the role alongside Hugh Jackman, Mark Wahlberg, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Considering how Pokémon has sold hundreds of millions of games and billions of trading cards, fans are simultaneously delighted and blown away by the casting choice. The film will follow Smith's character who attempts to find his kidnapped father and enlists the help of Detective Pikachu to get the job done. This actor is none other than Ryan Reynolds most made famous for being Deadpool. Rob Letterman (Goosebumps) is directing from a script by Alex Hirsch and Nicole Perlman, and production is slated to start next month in London. Newton is reportedly playing a journalist aiding them along the way.

Legendary's live-action Pokémon movie, Detective Pikachu, has been charging full-steam ahead in the past month.

Universal Pictures has worldwide distribution rights on the project, save Japan. Reynolds, however, is set to return as the trash-talking superhero in "Deadpool 2", expected to be released on June 1 next year. Let us know in the comments!
