News Anchor Expertly Claps Back At Viewer Who Called Her N****r

"I think when arguing with somebody, you have to be careful not to mischaracterize their viewpoint", Reed said during the broadcast.

Rae allegedly went on to say that Reed is not a black person, but a "racist (expletive)".

Unfortunately, the conversation left viewer Kathy Rae fuming, so much so that she felt compelled to send Reed an email saying she ought to be fired for making "race baiting comments". It's one we're having tonight because it's one that many of you are having at home.

Reed, an achor on CBS 46 Atlanta, and her fellow anchors have been covering the racial dynamics that played out in the mayoral race between Councilwoman Keisha Lance Bottoms, a Black woman, and Councilwoman Mary Norwood, a White woman. I didn't say that white people couldn't talk about race. Reed requested her colleagues to briefly digress from their topic of discussion to present her view on a racist email sent by a viewer named Kathy Rae. "I get it. On December 5, 2017, you think it's OK to call this journalist a 'n****r.' I don't". I don't. I could clap back and say a few things to you. If Norwood won, she'd be the first white female mayor of Atlanta, according to ABC News.

Kathyrae1962 told Reed she "is what's wrong with the world" in an email. "And that's the last word". Norwood is running as an independent, white Bottoms is supported by the state's Democratic Party.

"Number one, you mischaracterized what I said", Reed said.

Reed has also commented on the now-viral moment, telling the Atlanta Journal Constitution that she made a decision to use the n-word in its entirety in the moment, and that she is "not a fan of the use" of the word in general. "I think it's fair for people to see what she wrote". What she said was not in a teleprompter. We're talking race. She used it multiple times.

Though Reed has kept somewhat mum on the matter since the newscast ended, the same can't be said for netizens. Taylor, then 36, had been the subject of what a 2002 Daily News article calls "foul, scatological, racist, sexist" messages posted to online TV forums which she believed were authored by Reed.
