Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane's father booked for negligent driving

Indian Test cricketer Ajinkya Rahane's father Madhukar Baburao Rahane was involved in a fatal vehicle accident on Friday.

The fatal accident took place at Thursday noon on Pune-Bengaluru highway whereas Madhukar was arrested on Friday. The 67-year-old woman, who is identified as Ashatai Kamble, succumbed to her injuries in a local hospital. Rahane's father was driving with his family to their hometown in the coastal Konkan region from Mumbai, a senior police official said today. Ajinkya's father and family were travelling when they were involved in the accident. During the time of Accident, the entire Rahane family was present in the vehicle. In the Kagal area, he lost his control over the vehicle and hit woman.

As a result, a case was registered against his father, and was later arrested under Indian Penal code (IPC) sections 304 A, 289, 337 and 338. Several people gathered at the accident spot and rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, but she died during treatment at around 7 pm yesterday, he said.

According to a police officer, Kamble was standing in the middle of the road.

Ajinkya Rahane is now travelling with the Indian team for the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka. India levelled the series at Mohali and will play the decider at Vizag on December 17.
