Chelsea boss Antonio Conte: 'Cesc Fabregas changed my mind about him'

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has revealed he had moments when he contemplated quitting the club last season as he struggled to get playing time under manager Antonio Conte but will be ready to sign an extension to his current deal.

Fabregas had to wait until December 2016 to make his first Premier League start when the talented playmaker helped Chelsea to secure a 3-1 win at title rivals Manchester City.

The Spaniard wasn't always a regular under Antonio Conte but he's firmly in the manager's plans so there doesn't seem to be any reason why he want to leave, but contract talks can always be hard so time will tell about how his future pans out. You have to play a lot of games, but when you arrive at the final stage to play for quarter-finals, semi-finals the English teams have a lot of games in their legs.

"The other is what I did, put your head down and be humble, show him that he's wrong".

"Now I can say our relationship is fantastic..."

"He trusts me. He knows exactly what I can give to the team".

However, he says he doesn't feel his age. "What is 30? Nothing", said Fabregas.

In that time, the 28-year-old has established himself as a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge, giving consistently solid displays at left-back and right-back before slotting seamlessly into a back three in Conte's defensive system.

"I'm very young. I really mean it". Especially how I play, the position I play. You can go for many more years. I'm enjoying my football.

The presence of Azpilicueta could not prevent Chelsea from being held to a draw against Atletico that condemned them to runners-up spot in Group C, meaning they could face Barcelona, Besiktas or Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16 in February.

"He's a victor in his mind, in his mentality, for this reason he is very strong".
