Bryan Singer's sudden absence puts stop to Queen biopic

Out director Bryan Singer has been fired from the Queen film Bohemian Rhapsody.

The movie's star, Rami Malek, reportedly clashed with Singer over being unprofessional.

According to THR, and sources associated with filming, it was Singer's constant absence and unreliability during production that led to the film's star, Rami Malek, to complain to the studio, "charging Singer with not being present on set, unreliability and unprofessionalism". In one instance, a cinematographer had to fill in to direct during a "non-showing" of Singer.

But then Thanksgiving rolled around, and after the break, Singer did not return to the set with the rest of the cast and crew.

The tension built up to an on-set confrontation between the actor and director, which reportedly involved Singer throwing an object.

Neither Singer or Malek have commented publicly on the move at this time. His prolonged absence was the final straw, and so the studio chose to terminate his contract.

Word around town is that Fox has been having discreet discussions with replacement helmers to finish the film, even before the studio halted production today.

In a statement, they said simply Singer "is no longer the director of Bohemian Rhapsody".

But then Singer did not return to the set after the Thanksgiving break and is believed to have been in the US for about the last ten days, according to one source.

The studio, which has about two more weeks of principal photography remaining on the film, is expected to name a new director within the next few days.

Bohemian Rhapsody is slated for USA release December 25, 2018.
