Apple working on a 'budget' Rs 16000 iPad for 2018

This is even lower than the $329 (roughly Rs. 21,200) price tag of the 9.7-Inch iPad launched in March this year - which at that point was its cheapest full-sized iPad. If this iPad is supposed to be an affordable option to the 2017 iPad, then it could possibly use the old A8 chip from the 2014 iPhone 6 or at most use the A9 chip in a tuned-down state. The device is expected to launch in the second half of 2018.

Likely, Apple is also preparing in 2018, the new iPad Pro, which will get redesigned with a slim framework and a system of Face ID to recognize user's face, but will lose home button and fingerprint scanner.

While there isn't an exact date of launch of the cheaper iPad, the report says that it could arrive in the second quarter of 2018.

With the tablet market already becoming mature, Apple has been seeing weakening sales for its iPad series, while Android-based tablet shipments have also been declining. The tech giant will reportedly announce a new version of the regular-sized iPad at a price point of $259 (roughly Rs. 16,700). This affordable iPad will retain the iPad 2017's 9.7-inch form factor but will use relatively "less-able' components, i.e. this budget iPad won't be as powerful as the cheapest iPad on sale today". This gives Apple an edge as it is able to provide an ecosystem and brand loyalty compared to its competition, and not to mention timely updates. But one will have to wait and see if a cheaper iPad will bring anything new to the table. As potential buyers of a budget tablet from Apple referred to as consumers of industrial sector and service sector.
