Android 8.0 Oreo beta testing now open to Nokia 5: HMD Global

Now, the Android 8.0 Oreo beta update has started seeding to the beta testers and should be available to everyone by the end of 2017, as promised by the company. It now seems that the Nokia Camera App has benefitted greatly from the update. Now, some files inside of the APK package actually show us that the current version of the Nokia Camera (8.0200.20) supports the telephoto camera mode with 2X optical zoom, and it also comes with a wide-angle mode as well.

For example, the app shows options for both Telephoto and Wideangle shots. Now, a Nokia Camera app build spotted in the Android Oreo beta for the Nokia 5 has tipped the upcoming use of a new type of dual camera setup expected to be seen on the Nokia 9 - a wide-angle lens coupled with a telephoto lens.

The only dual camera smartphone that Nokia has launched is Nokia 8, and it comes with identical field of view on both sensors.

The other change that has been brought to the Nokia Camera app is that the users can manually select the Shutter speed and ISO on the Nokia 5. It is also seen with 1/500-1s shutter speed and ISO range from 100 to 2000. However, Chinese website My Drivers site has claimed that the device will be launched on January 19, 2018, along with the Nokia 8 (2018). The Nokia 8 is now the only HMD phone with dual cameras but the upcoming Nokia 9 is also expected to launch with two cameras on its rear.

The Oreo beta update for Nokia 5 may still have bugs in it so it is recommended that you wait for a stable version.

The Nokia 9 is rumored to come with dual cameras on the back that supports telephoto zoom and wide angle modes. Once you have enrolled yourself, you will be receiving the beta update via the OTA route after around 12 hours.

Last week we reported that Xiaomi has started looking for beta testers of the Mi A1 smartphone for the latest Android Oreo update.
