Two terrorists killed in J&K's Handwara

Two militants were reportedly killed in an encounter with security forces in frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara on Monday evening.

Officials said the gunfight broke out after the militants opened fire at a police party in Zachaldara area of Handwara.

While most of the encounters this year have been happening in the southern districts of Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama, north Kashmir has more battle-hardened militants active on ground than the south, a police officer said.

The identities and group affiliations of the slain militants were being ascertained.

He said the search operation continued for over three hours.

"At both these places, searches are going on".

Sources said that almost 70 security personnel have lost their lives in the line of duty this year, while an equal number of ultras have infiltrated into Kashmir in the past 10 months.

Four of his family members including father, two brothers and an aunt were also injured in the attack.

The militants kick Gulzar, who is half naked, and force him to take a "pledge" that he would not work with the mainstream parties in future.
