Torey Lovullo, Paul Molitor Named Managers of the Year

The BBWAA announced Tuesday that Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo was named National League Manager of the Year.

It's a deserving award for Lovullo, who led the Diamondbacks to the NLDS during his first year as manager. In the BBWAA balloting, Lovullo prevailed over his fellow award finalists and fellow NL West managers, Dave Roberts of the Dodgers and Bud Black of the Rockies.

Lovullo received 18-of-30 first place votes en route to the honor.

Lovullo, who is the seventh manager to win the award in his first season as a manager, guided the Diamondbacks to a 93-69 season-a 24-win improvement from 2016.

Among the other managers who received first-place votes was Dusty Baker of the Washington Nationals, who received one and finished fifth in the voting. "If you win rookie of the year, the Cy Young or the MVP, it's about the player".

Roberts finished second with 5 first place votes, 8 second place votes and 6 third place votes. He led the team to their first playoff berth since the 2010 year, going on to lose to the New York Yankees in the American League Wild Card Game. The Twins entered the season with paltry expectations and were sellers at the trade deadline, yet played well down the stretch to earn the AL's second Wild Card spot. "An award like this reflects the work of the organization and everyone who contributed to the Twins having a turnaround season".

Hinch navigated the Astros to a 101-61 record and their first-ever World Series title in his third season at the helm.

Molitor, who was elected to the Hall of Fame as a player in 2004, is the second Hall of Famer to be named Manager of the Year.
