RANKED: All the DC movies from 'Man of Steel' to 'Justice League'

Justice League's global box office results are in.

Should Justice League fail to hit the $100 million mark, it would find itself with the second-lowest superhero movie opening of the year after Logan on $88 million.

Justice League is underperforming at the box office, with an estimated haul of $96 million this weekend. The superhero team-up movie went through numerous hurdles during post-production and the resulting film may not have been what fans wanted. While the film had an underwhelming opening in North America, it performed quite well in other markets, earning $41.2 million in all 10 Asian markets (excluding China) and pulling in $35.4 million in Latin America. Warner Bros. needs Justice League to be a massive success that will pave a new path for the future of DC Films, and the film promises to be a more lighthearted fare (at least compared to something like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) that is fun. In Europe, Justice League is outperforming Wonder Woman but trailing Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok.

The opening day gross includes about $13 million from Thursday night previews. However, "Wonder Woman" had something that "Justice League" does not: rave reviews.

The reviews of Zach Snyder/Joss Whedon's Justice League have been, let's just say, mixed.

The film has brought in $70.7 million overseas, and it's now sitting at $109.5 million worldwide. Well, a sub-$800 million worldwide gross doesn't seem out of the picture. Here, the alien character Steppenwolf (voiced by Ciaran Hinds) is able to descend upon Earth after the death of Superman in the 2016 film, attempting to gain control of three Mother Boxes, which can bring about apocalypse when they are united. Just as Cyborg (Ray Fisher) is made from a mix of human and computer parts, and is sometimes unable to control his/its worst impulses, so too does Justice League feel cobbled together from spare parts, with two different directors who have two very different sensibilities at the helm.
