Panthers rookie wide receiver Curtis Samuel out for the season

Now Carolina will be without both of them.

Samuel caught a season-high five passes prior to being injured.

Monday night was a costly win for the Panthers. The second-round pick finishes his season with 15 receptions for 115 yards.

Samuel will miss the rest of the season after tearing ligaments in his left ankle Monday against the Dolphins, David Newton reports.

Coach Ron Rivera said earlier Tuesday there was concern that Samuel's injury would be season-ending, but he was awaiting MRI results. "He had a couple of third-down conversions, and his awareness is becoming better and better as far as finding holes in the zones. He made a tough catch when he got hit hard on a deep cross and held onto it".

"I think it's kind of a collective effort. There's some guys on the team that would say yeah", Shula said.

The Panthers have only four other receivers on their active roster - Devin Funchess, Russell Shepard, Kaelin Clay and Brenton Bersin - but Damiere Boyd is eligible to come off injured reserve for the team's game against the Saints on December 3.

It's not all bad for Carolina, though. Though veteran tight end Greg Olsen is slated to make a return soon after suffering a foot injury all the way back in Week 2, the Panthers cut ties with their No. 1 wide receiver, Kelvin Benjamin, when they shipped him to the Buffalo Bills a few weeks ago.
