LeBron James on David Fizdale firing: 'I need some answers'

After the Grizzlies' eighth straight loss last night, in which things finally boiled over and David Fizdale sat Marc Gasol for the whole fourth quarter, the Grizzlies have fired David Fizdale. He believes Fizdale was the fall guy for what's become a tough situation in Memphis.

Fizdale was an assistant at the Miami Heat during LeBron James and Dwyane Wade's time in South Beach.

Memphis is mired in an eight-game losing streak and owns a 7-12 mark this season after advancing to the playoffs in 2016-17. And for much of that stretch, they've been without star point guard Mike Conley.

The Gasol incident appears to have been the last straw.

J.B. Bickerstaff, who served as Fizdale's associate head coach, will serve as the team's interim head coach.

Fizdale was sacked after a 7-12 start to the 2017-18 National Basketball Association season, but previous year he led the Grizzlies to a 43-39 record during the regular season which was good enough to get the Grizzlies into the Western Conference playoffs.

Fizdale had also been fighting an uphill battle with point guard Mike Conley out since November 13 with an Achilles injury and veterans Tony Allen and Zach Randolph no longer on the team this season. I'm sure (the coaching staff) knew that would hurt me the most. The Grizzlies will play their first game without Fizdale this Wednesday on the road against the San Antonio Spurs.

"Obviously, you get frustrated, and I did, and mad and start wondering", said Gasol.

Fizdale was fined $30,000 by the National Basketball Association for a rant over officiating after a loss in Game 2.
