Jon Stewart On Louis CK: 'Could I Have Done More?'

Jon Stewart On Louis CK: 'Could I Have Done More?'

Could I have done more?' In this situation, we all could have.

Stewart described his initial reaction as "stunned", explaining that he tends to give his friends the benefit of the doubt. Stewart feels, based on a long friendship, "anger at what [Louis C.K.] did to people".

HBO has since removed C.K. from the Stewart-hosted "Night of Too Many Stars", which airs live on the network on November 18 at 8pm ET. "And then, joke joke, and as he kept going I was like, "Look, I know this is very serious, but I know Louie, he's always been a gentleman to me" - which again, speaks to the blindness that I think a man has, which is like, 'Hey, he's a good guy, what are you talking about?'"

Jon Stewart has responded to the Louis CK sexual misconduct scandal after the comedian's recent admission and apology. "I don't know what you're talking about but - I can't really answer".

When asked whether or not Louis C.K. has talked to Jon Stewart, Stewart replied, "No I haven't. Yet".

"So the internet said Louis harassed women?"

On Monday, C.K.'s longtime manager Dave Becky issued a statement apologizing for his client's behavior.

Stewart said that following the podcast taping, he "dug around" to determine if there was any truth behind the audience member's question. Honestly, I'm not that connected to that world.

But he added, "In the context of the event, the young man's comments came as a complete non sequitur, based on nothing I had seen or we had been discussing". It's gotten better over the years, but certainly when we started 30 years ago, it was really hard.

Following the New York Times report, in which five women accused C.K. of masturbating in front of them, I Love You, Daddy distributor the Orchard announced that it would not move forward with the release.

"Digging around in it and finding that some people had done what some people had done, it was hard, but we were all assured 'no.' And we all took somebody's word for it and maybe that's ... that's an error on our part".

Stewart continued, saying "I do apologize".

"At the time, I said to myself that what I did was okay because I never showed a woman my d- without asking first, which is also true", he said.

Stewart added that he has not talked to Louis CK since the reports of sexual assault allegations.
