Google Lens now rolling out to Assistant for Pixel, Pixel 2

Google's Orrin, Community Manager, confirmed the update in the forum, and said, "We're rolling out a software update in the coming weeks which eliminates a faint buzzing sound on some Pixel 2 devices when the phone is placed to your ear during a phone call". Furthermore, the integration of Google Lens on Google Assistant required no app update as it was a server-side change. In Photos, the feature can be activated when viewing any image or screenshot.

The Google Pixel was running on Android 8.1 beta, and the Reddit user revealed that the Google Lens required no access to Photos for it to be used.

Google is featuring most of its products in Google Assistant and that is very convenient for the customers as they don't need to switch multiple applications to perform different tasks. Some users are now seeing the feature within Assistant, 9to5Google reports.

It has been created to bring up relevant information using visual analysis, and is expected to be relevant to Google CEO Sundar Pichai's "AI first" goal. Unlike the Lens in Google Photos, the one in Assistant is integrated when you pull up the sheet by pressing the Home button. Google Lens is capable of providing virtual contextual information about things that the handset's camera sees. Say if you want to know what a particular flower is, you'll be able to bring up Google Lens through Assistant which will identify the flower and it will tell you what flower it is.

Google Lens was first announced by the search giant earlier this year. You should update the Google app on your smartphone to get the update.
