Three skydivers have died in North Queensland, Australia, in what police said might have been the result of a mid-air mishap.

It is understood that emergency services attended the scene at Mission Beach, off Alexander Drive at approximately 3pm this afternoon.

Police believe the solo skydiver may have collided with the tandem skydivers in mid-air, with their parachutes failing to open properly.

The deceased are reportedly two men in their 40s and a woman in her 50s.

Brad Turner from the Australian Parachuting Federation said an investigator from the organisation was already in Mission beach assisting with investigations.
