Rose McGowan Is Back on Twitter and Claiming Harvey Weinstein 'Raped Me'

Rose McGowan returned to Twitter with a vengeance after a temporary suspension on Thursday, October 12, to publicly accuse Harvey Weinstein of rape.

Actress Rose McGowan has accused Ben Affleck of lying over his prior knowledge of producer Harvey Weinstein's predatory sexual behaviour - and had her Twitter account frozen as a result.

McGowan included a screenshot of her Twitter account with a message from the company. She also alleges, in a series of tweets in which she tagged Amazon's founder Jeff Bezos, that she told the head of Amazon studios about the alleged rape and called on Amazon to stop funding the work of "rapists, alleged pedos and sexual harassers".

Since the allegation about Weinstein came to light, McGowan has been using her Twitter account and the #RoseArmy hashtag to raise awareness and to offer support to other women making allegations against the producer. The company said it will "be clearer about these policies and decisions in the future".

In subsequent tweets, McGowan appeared to suggest that Amazon Studios, which is overseen by Roy Price, previously dropped a project penned by McGowan after she insisted Weinstein not be involved.

"Twitter is proud to empower and support the voices on our platform, especially those that speak truth to power", the statement concludes.

McGowan had been unrelenting in her advocacy since last week's New York Times article detailing decades of sexual harassment allegations against Weinstein. "We stand with the fearless women and men who use Twitter to share their stories, and will work hard every day to improve our processes to protect those voices".

She immediately took to Instagram to denounce the freeze: "TWITTER HAS SUSPENDED ME". I forcefully begged studio head to do the right thing.

On its website, Twitter notes that it may temporarily lock accounts engaging in "abusive behavior" on the platform.

Many Hollywood actresses including Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow have come out with the claims that the movie mogul tried to sexually harass them.

McGowan's suspension caused an enormous backlash on social media, with many criticizing Twitter for a move that would silence an alleged victim of sexual harassment on its service.

The actress says she said no to Weinstein professionally many times over the years, and that Weinstein would often respond with anger, profanity and threats.
