Nawaz Sharif's son-in-law's petition to delay indictment rejected

Nawaz Sharif's son-in-law's petition to delay indictment rejected

The daughter and son-in-law of ousted Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif were on Monday granted bail by the country's anti-graft court in the Panama Papers scandal as they appeared before it following their return from London.

The lawyers alleged that they were manhandled by the security forces outside the court and prevented them from entering the courtroom.

Sharif's daughter Maryam, after appearing before the NAB court on Monday, said that she was not afraid of getting arrested.

As the hearing begun, Maryam Nawaz and her husband Safdar reached the court.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had registered three cases of corruption and money laundering against Sharif, 67, his family members and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in the Islamabad Accountability Court after the Supreme Court disqualified him as prime minister on July 28.

The police had only allowed selected persons to enter the complex.

The hearing was postponed till October 19 without indicting Maryam Nawaz and captain retd.

The court during the hearing on October 9 chose to separate the trial of Sharif's sons Hussain and Hassan from Sharif, his daughter and son-in-law.

The court had also chose to conduct separate trial of former PM's sons, Hassan and Hussain Nawaz.

The court also ordered to start the process of declaring Sharif's sons - Husain and Hasan - proclaimed offender as they have failed to appear before it so far.

Meanwhle PML-N Senator Pervaiz Rashid said: "Nawaz Sharif today did not appear before the Accountability Court in Islamabad because he is in London to look after his ailing wife Begum Kulsoom".

The hearing was adjourned until October 13, when members of the Sharif family will be indicted.

The anti-graft body was given six weeks, from the date of the apex court's order, to file the reference in an accountability court while the accountability court was granted six months to wrap up the proceedings.

The "Volume-10" of the Joint Investigation Team report is said to have dealt with the mutual legal business agreements between the Sharif family and different foreign governments.

NAB has filed three references against Nawaz Sharif and his children.

Earlier, the court was informed about Nawaz Sharif's absence.
