Manchester City ready January bid for silverware-hungry Alexis Sanchez

Sanchez is allowed to talk to foreign clubs in January ahead of his contract expiration however Manchester City would have to risk losing out if they were to sign him for a free transfer.

The star duo are both in the final year of their contracts at the Emirates Stadium with several of Europe's high-profile clubs monitoring the situation.

The Chile global is out of contract next summer, with no sign he will extend his current deal with Arsenal.

Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn has said that Alexis Sanchez will shine on the field regardless of whether he is happy at the Gunners or not.

Sanchez will be dealing with both fatigue and the disappointment of missing out on next summer's tournament in Russian Federation, and Wenger said he will have to gauge the player's physical and mental state before deciding whether to play him at Watford.

"At the moment we are not close enough to announce anything".

In the short term, Sanchez has to deal with the disappointment of Chile's failure to qualify for the World Cup, following their 3-0 midweek loss in Brazil.

Arsenal travel to Watford on the back of a seven-game unbeaten run in all competitions, whereas the Hornets are unbeaten in their last two league fixtures.

Of Sanchez's potential availability on Saturday against Watford, Wenger said: "I will have to speak with him, I watched the whole game [ against Brazil]".

Wenger said that the midfielder will get more games soon, and does not have to leave Arsenal to be in contention for England.

"It was very physical and mentally I will have to assess the situation".
