Manager Koeman backed by Everton board despite poor start

Everton host Olympique de Lyonnais on Thursday night in a game that many will believe Ronald Koeman needs to win for the pressure to ease, although he still has plenty of injury concerns heading into the tie, according to the club's official website.

Lyon will be without star striker Mariano for the clash at Goodison Park but they will be able to call upon former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay, a player held in high esteem by Koeman.

Everton's largest shareholder Farhad Moshiri gave Koeman a vote of confidence earlier this month, and he and chairman Bill Kenwright visited the club's Finch Farm training base last week.

"In football that's a nice thing but in football it's all about results" - before stating - "until now it's total support from the board, yes".

The removal of Craig Shakespeare from the Leicester City hotseat this week has catapulted Koeman to the head of the sack race betting lists following a run of just two wins in the last 11 matches in all competitions.

That added urgency is not lost on Koeman.

It is no secret Koeman's men have struggled with injuries all season, with many facing long-term injuries, however, they recruited heavily in the summer having been provided with some much needed financial power.

Currently Everton are fifth from bottom of the Premier league with just eight points from eight games.

The Blues are winless in three games and face an extremely hard test against Lyon on Thursday night with the place in the Europa League on the brink. I think I have spoken before in interviews, said what I had to say and now it's on me to focus on what's ahead of me. It's also unlikely he's won over those who doubted him from the start.

"He is still a young player and is always risky because when he is not on his level he has individual qualities like free kicks and shots from distance. That is what we need to do".
